Government Digital Service (GDS) is leading the digital transformation of government and we’re delighted to be supporting the Public Sector Show Manchester.

We’re committed to helping you deliver services that meet user needs and are transforming how citizens interact with government and the wider public sector.

We’d love to have the chance to meet with you at the show – whether that is during our keynote about the Government Transformation Strategy, at one of our bookable digital advice surgeries, or on our stand C2, there’s plenty of opportunities for you to chat with our experts and get one to one practical advice and the answers to any questions you may have.

In the State of the Public Sector Theatre  Kevin Cunnington, our Director General, will be explaining how GDS is responding to the new challenges and opportunities presented by a new government and the UK exiting from the EU.

On our own exhibition stand we will be giving short presentations on a variety topics that will provide an overview of some of our work which will be followed by bookable one to one digital advice surgeries.

Agenda

10.00 – 10.15: Your toolkit for services introductory talk

GDS has created a range of cost-effective components that solve common problems experienced across central and local government as well as the wider public sector. We call this toolkit: Government as a Platform (GaaP).

The current services we offer are:

  • Verify – the trusted, safe and secure way to prove who you are online
  • Notify – keep users updated with emails, texts and letters
  • Pay – a simple, secure way for people to pay for government services online
  • PaaS – a platform for hosting so service teams don’t have to
  • Registers – build services using accurate and up-to-date data

Each of these components can easily drop into your services and solve needs such as: taking payments, verifying identity, sending out email or text message alerts, and even hosting your service.

Find out how you can make use of the GaaP toolkit and how GDS has worked to ensure the components offer value for money, security, and comply to international standards.

Digital is transforming how government works. The GDS Academy exists to teach civil servants the skills they need to embrace this change. To work more efficiently and creatively, and to build the best possible services for users – whatever their level of technical expertise.

It offers a range of courses to help individuals and teams across government thrive in the world of agile and user-centred design.

The Academy has trained 6,000 civil servants since its creation at DWP in 2014. It’s now expanding nationwide under the GDS banner with the aim to train 3,000 people per year.

Courses are currently delivered in Leeds, Newcastle, London and Scotland via a partnership with Scottish Government, and facilities are expected to open in Manchester in early 2018.
